Unborn is the New Black

The good Senor Wences (who's recently started blogging again) informed me this morning that he saw Maryland's Republican candidate in the Illinois US Senate race Alan Keyes on CNN comparing abortion to slavery. Frankly, I didn't believe it. At the very most, I thought it could've been a veiled roundabout comparison.

But, no. I was wrong.

I checked out Keyes official website and not only did I find a speech from 2000 centering on his belief that "abortion is to our time what slavery was to the 19th century," I also found a page called Alan Keyes on The Issues where he compares income tax to slavery:
"The income tax in effect makes us vassals to the government. No mere "reform" of this slave tax, such as flattening the rate, can correct its fundamental denial of control over our own money."
I haven't yet been able to find any Keyes quotations that compare abortion to income tax, but simple logic convinces me that they have to be out there somewhere.

If you think the abortion=slavery thing is something, then you really ought to read the op/ed from Keyes site by Fred Hutchison (pictured here) called The Keyes-Obama debates and the Lincoln-Douglas debates: Does history repeat itself? Hutchison takes Keyes' idea and runs with it like there's no tomorrow, drawing comparisons between Keyes and Lincoln, Obama and Douglas, Quakers and Catholics, and--as if abortion and income tax weren't enough--gay-marriage and slavery. I'd bet dollars to donuts that Keyes shows up to the first debate in a stove-pipe hat. Seriously though, someone ought to tell these guys that Lincoln was totally gay.
